26-year-old man seriously injured in a single-car crash on West Kuiaha Road in Haiku, Hawaii

A 26-year-old man was taken to Maui Memorial Hospital in critical condition following a single-car crash in Haiku. The man was driving on West Kuiaha Road near Kaupakalua Road just after 4 p.m. Sunday when he failed to make a right turn and smashed his sport utility vehicle into a tree. Police say speed may have been a factor in the accident. The driver was also not wearing a seat belt.
