According to police, a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling east on Hana Highway when it collided with a Ford Taurus sedan making a left turn from a designated turn lane onto Hookele Street. The 72-year-old male driver of the Ford Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene. His 16-year-old male passenger, who was seated in the rear driver’s side seat, was also pronounced dead. The other two passengers of the Ford Taurus were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. Names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notifications. Police say the man was a resident of Washington State and the 16-year-old was a resident of Idaho.

Man accused of causing crash that killed grandfather and teen, released from custody

Man accused of causing crash that killed grandfather and teen, released from custody Posted: Updated: Police sources say 36-year old Roman Semes did not have a valid driver's license or insurance when he allegedly hit a Ford Taurus. Sources say Semes -- driving an F-150 pickup -- may have run the light at Hana Highway and Ho'okele Street, and T-boned the Taurus. He was arrested for two counts of Negligent Homicide and two counts of Negligent Injury, but was Released Pending Investigation (RPI). The driver,  72-year old Ronald Dean of Washington and his passenger, 16-year old Joshua Noah Chapman of Idaho were both killed. Police sources also tell me they believe Semes was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
