Two drivers were killed in an accident on I-64 at Green Mount Road early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police. The names of the victims were not released Sunday pending notification of their families. According to a police statement, an eastbound 2007 Chrysler 300 was either stopped in the far right lane or was attempting to turn onto the shoulder of the highway around 4:15 a.m. when another vehicle, an eastbound 2000 Honda Civic, struck it from behind. The impact caused the Chrysler to cross all eastbound lanes and come to rest against the wires of the center median. The Honda ended up facing west on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes.
