A multicar accident involving a semi-truck has killed a woman and shut down all lanes of Illinois Highway 140, just north of Edwardsville.

A dump truck, which was traveling westbound on 6656 Illinois Route 140, lost his tailgate in the road, according to Illinois State Police. The semi-truck driver ran over the tailgate, lost control and rolled on top of a Ford SUV.

A multi-car accident involving a semi-truck has killed a woman and shut down all lanes of Illinois Highway 140, just north of Edwardsville.

The accident happened after 10 a.m. on Highway 140 between Highway 159 and St. James Drive with the truck ending on top of one of the cars.

A dump truck, which was traveling westbound on 6656 Illinois Route 140, lost his tailgate in the road, according to Illinois State Police. The semi-truck driver ran over the tailgate, lost control and rolled on top of a Ford SUV.

The SUV driver, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck carried approximately 40,000 pounds of milk at the time of accident.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
