One man has died and at least one other person fled the scene after a two-car crash in the Northwest Side Portage Park early Saturday morning. A Honda Civic and a dark-colored van were speeding eastbound in the 5400 block of Irving Park Road at about 1:40 a.m. when the van struck the Honda, causing the Honda to crash into a tree, police said. The occupants of the van survived the crash and fled the scene, police said. The driver of the Honda, who was the only person inside the car, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The vehicles involved in the crash also struck some parked cars, according to police.

A medical examiner identified the victim as Cesar Diaz, 38. According to Chicago police, a black 2002 Honda Civic slammed into a tree at about 1:40 this morning in the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road.  Police say it had been speeding when a van hit it, wrapping the Honda completely around the tree.  The crash was so bad, the car simply looked like a pile of mangled metal, with gouges, dents and broken glass strewn across the street.
