Ivery Isom, 22, arrested after crash kills Patrick Walker, 22, and injures 3 others

A man was charged in connection with a crash that killed one man and seriously hurt three other people early Friday in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side. Ivery Isom, 22, of the 6100 Block of South Rhodes, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card and possession of a laser sight accessory, police said. While traveling at a high speed eastbound on 93rd Street about 5:10 a.m., the vehicle veered into the oncoming lane, struck a parked vehicle, then a light pole, and came to rest after striking a tree near the intersection of 93rd Street and Constance Avenue, police said, citing preliminary information from the Major Accident Investigation Unit. Four passengers in the vehicle were hurt, according to police and fire officials. Patrick Walker, 22, of the 700 block of East 68th Street, later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 8:04 a.m. Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Police believe Walker was driving the vehicle. Isom, a passenger in the vehicle, had a loaded handgun with him, police said. Three men, ages 22, 26 and 30, were taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said. As of Saturday morning, the 26-year-old passenger has been treated and is expected to be released and the other two men are listed in “stable” condition, police said. The cause of the crash may be alcohol-related, police said. Isom, who was being treated at Christ for injuries sustained in the crash, is expected Saturday in bond court.
