Southwest Employee Driving Luggage Vehicle Killed In Crash At Midway

A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines released a statement saying, “Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time. Resources will be on site to support our Southwest Family at Midway.”

Midway Luggage Driver Killed in Crash at Airport

"After an accident involving ground equipment, one of our Ramp Agents at Chicago Midway passed away last night," Melissa Ford, a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines, said in statement.

A fatal incident occurred Friday night at Midway Airport in which a baggage handler died. Just after 11 p.m. a man driving a luggage vehicle crashed into another luggage hauler and was ejected from the vehicle. The man was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The medical examiner identifies the victim as Michael Yates, 52, of Carol Stream. Yates was a Southwest Airlines employee.  Police are investigating the circumstances and it appears no one else was injured.
