Former college football player dies after falling from catwalk at Aragon Ballroom

Kirchhoff, a defensive line coach for the College of DuPage, fell onto two protruding pieces of metal at the North Side venue Friday, according to police.

Chevelle took to Facebook to thank its fans for cooperating with authorities and to offer their condolences to family and friends of Kirchhoff.

"We were asked by police to stop our set so that the authorities could tend to an injured fan. Once the severity of the accident was determined the authorities cleared out the venue to give them time to investigate. We want to thank our Chicago fans for their respect of the authorities and for understanding that these decisions made by the authorities were out of our control..."

Kyle Kirchhoff, 24, died after falling during a Chevelle concert at the Aragon Ballroom. The accident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, May 22 when Kirchhoff and two friends where watching the show on the Aragon’s second-floor balcony when the three friends wandered through a door on that floor that led to a catwalk where they were able to watch the concert. After a short while, two of the friends noticed Kirchhoff wasn't with them and began searching and discovered his body. Kirchhoff had apparently fallen about 6 to 8 feet onto two metal rods, sustaining two wounds to his chest. He was brought to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m.
