La Salle County Coroner Jody Bernard said coroner’s deputies were trying to contact next of kin this morning in relation to an accident involving “multiple fatalities.” She would not release any further details of the accident or the victims involved until family members were notified.

LaSalle County Coroner Jody Bernard says the four victims were pronounced dead the scene early Thursday. Bernard says a fifth victim was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a trauma center.
Officials in north-central Illinois say four people have died in a single-vehicle crash near Mendota.

The coroner says autopsies were planned for Thursday and officials were working to identify the victims.
The News Tribune in LaSalle reports that LaSalle County Sheriff's officials say the five people were in a vehicle when it went off the roadway and struck objects including trees.
Mendota is about 50 miles south of Rockford.
