The crash happened on the interstate near mile post 93 and involved three semi-trailers, a tire hauling truck, a straight truck and a passenger vehicle.
At least two fatalities were confirmed in the crash, according to Illinois State Police.

A fully loaded gravel/rock hauler failed to reduce speed and began the crash sequence by striking a passenger vehicle — pinning it under a truck tractor semi-trailer directly in front of the passenger vehicle. Two occupants were killed in the passenger vehicle.

The victims are all from the Chicago area, and were 25, 26, and 34 years old.
