Brian Modglin, 21, killed, several children injured, transported to hospital, after a off-road vehicle overturns near the town of Ava in Jackson County.

Authorities in southern Illinois' Jackson County say one person was killed and several others injured in a weekend crash of an off-road vehicle.

Authorities say nine people were in the vehicle at the time of the wreck shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday near Ava. The passengers included seven children, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years old.

Investigators say the 21-year-old driver, Brian Modglin, attempted a sharp turn and lost control of the vehicle, which then overturned.

Modglin later died at a Murphysboro hospital.
