Traffic crash near Brookport leaves one dead : News

A traffic crash Wednesday on Interstate 24 in Massac County near Brookport left one person dead, according to Illinois State Police district 22. Jerome Warmus, 21, of Windermere, Florida, was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback at about 11:15 a.m. on Interstate 24 east when he failed to reduce speed and hit the back of a 2014 Yellow Kenworth Semi pulling a box trailer driven by George Lingerfelt, 28, of Galax, Virginia. Lingerfelt stopped in traffic at mile market 37 because of traffic merging into one lane because of a construction zone with a lane closure.
