The driver was Michael A. Shelton, 47, of Wheatfield, and the passenger was his wife, Kelly C. Shelton, 44, of Merrillville, according to the Porter County Sheriff's Department.

"The bus driver did everything the correct way. She had her seat belt on and the students were in their seats. As bad as it was, it could have been devastating," he said. "The driver did everything she could. We are grateful to have the drivers we have."
