SUV driver killed in I-70 crash with semi.

The driver of an SUV died following a crash with a semi early Thursday morning.

The driver of an SUV died following a crash with a semi early Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 70 near Emerson Avenue. Witnesses say the SUV veered from the center lane into the path of the semi.

The semi struck the SUV and both vehicles ended up blocking the high speed lane.

Emergency crews were able to free the SUV driver in 15 minutes. He was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, but later died.

The victim was identified as 34-year-old William Cody Nichols of Indianapolis. The cause of the crash is still under investigation but police believe Nichols may have suffered a medical condition before the crash.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to have played a roll in the crash.
