One woman and one child injured, taken to hospital, after their car crashes into a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Lafayette Road and West 71st. Street in Indianapolis.
Woman, child taken to hospital after NW side crash.
Fire officials in Pike Township say a woman and child were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a crash on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
The crash happened at Lafayette Road and West 71st Street around 3:15 p.m. Firefighters say a semi was stopped on the road and was trying to make a left hand turn, when a car hit the semi’s trailer. Both the car and semi were heading northbound.
Officials say the driver of the semi was OK. A woman and child in the car were awake and breathing when firefighters arrived and needed to be extricated. They were taken to a local hospital. Fire crews say the child was properly restrained.
At this time, it’s unclear if speed was a factor in the crash.
Pike Township firefighters anticipated the road would be back open by 4:45 p.m. or 5 p.m. Wednesday.
