A veteran Delaware County sheriff's deputy was drunk when he caused an accident Saturday that injured two other people plus himself, according to authorities.

Police said a 23-year veteran of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department caused a four-car crash on Saturday in Muncie. Investigator Todd Daily is now facing several preliminary charges related to drinking and driving.

The report also reflects a witness estimated Daily's speed at more than 60 mph when he slammed into the back of a car that was stopped at a red light at Ind. 32 and Country Club Road shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Daily was driving westbound on Ind. 32 when he crashed into the rear of a car driven by Shirley Fisher, 75. Fisher's car was forced into the rear of a pickup truck driven by Ronald Wright, 73, which in turn struck the rear of a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Stephanie Goodman, 43. Authorities believe Daily was intoxicated at the time of the accident though the results of his blood test were not immediately available.
