Crash sends 2 Lafayette residents to hospital

Police said members of the Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team were called in to assist crash reconstructionists for the West Lafayette Police Department in the investigation. It is believed at this time that neither alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash, police said.

A white Toyota Tundra pickup truck, driven by Kim Upton, 61, of Nevada, Iowa, was heading westbound on US 231 when it ran a red light and hit a beige Oldsmobile Aurora, driven by Jeffrey Weedon, 52, of Lafayette, which was heading southbound on US 231. Weedon's wife Faye Bridgeforth, 55, was in the passenger seat. The accident took place about 12:04 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of US 231 and Lindberg Road. Weedon was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth East Hospital with serious internal injuries after being helped from the car by the West Lafayette Fire Department. Bridgeforth was taken to IU Arnett Hospital to receive treatment for internal injuries. Upton was not injured in the crash. All passengers were wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
