Man airlifted after dump truck crash in Clay County

Police say 18-year-old Austin Dean of Knightsville was driving east on US 40, when he attempted to turn left into the median crossover just west of CR 300 East.

Dean turned into the path of a dump truck driven by 48-year-old Edgar Ballenger from Riley.

Rutledge was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital with severe leg injuries. Dean, the driver, was treated for head injuries at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, and was cited for unsafe movement between lanes. Ballenger, the dump truck driver, was not injured.
