3 members of family die coming home from band competition

David was driving a 2015 Honda Civic when he struck a deer and pulled onto the shoulder of I-69, Indiana State Police said,according to the Courier-Press. Mason Hartkey, 19, was driving a Chevrolet Colorado that weaved off the road and hit the Rineharts' parked vehicle. Hartkey suffered a broken arm and was taken to the hospital.

Police: Alleged drunk driver, who hit and killed 3, surrenders

Hartke was charged with 3 counts of operating while intoxicated with a BAC greater than .08 causing death and 3 counts of reckless homicide. 

19-year-old involved in fatal Greene County crash bonds out; set to appear in court next week

Officials report Hartke turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He then bonded out with a $60,000 bond with 10 percent allowed.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Officer believes Hartke will be in court next week.

An affidavit filed after the crash that killed three members of a Newburgh family earlier this month along Interstate 69 claims the teen accused of causing those deaths was drinking heavily on the Indiana University campus shortly before he collided with the Rinehart family's disabled vehicle.

Tears filled the court room as the judge read Hartke his charges, listed possible penalties and read him his rights.
