Two-Year-Old Dies After Motorcycle Crash

Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Wednesday that on Sunday, Abraham J. Harris, 2, was riding on a small motorcycle driven by his older brother at his parents home on Timberland Place NE north of Iowa City. Pulkrabek said the younger boy fell off the motorcycle and hit his head. The boy’s father, Jeff Harris, did not see the boy fall, but was nearby, Pulkrabek said.

A 2-year-old rural Johnson County boy died Monday from injuries he suffered when he fell off a motorcycle Sunday.

Harris took his son to Mercy Iowa City and he was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where Abraham died Monday.

Pulkrabek said the Department of Human Services was notified, which, in turn, contacted the sheriff’s office. A detective investigated the incident, but Pulkrabek said he does not anticipate any criminal charges.

Abraham was not wearing a helmet at the time he fell, Pulkrabek was not certain if his older brother was wearing a helmet.

“The family told us normally the kids wear helmets when they ride the vehicles,” Pulkrabek said.

Iowa does not have laws governing helmet use.
