One dead, another injured in crash south of Norway

A woman died Thursday night after a pickup truck she was riding in went into a ditch in rural Benton County.

A Marengo woman died when she was ejected from a pickup truck that went off the road and overturned in Benton County, Iowa.

"She was a great friend," said Tharp. "She was always there for everyone, whenever. She was a shy girl at first, but once you got to know her more she was a wild child."

Norway man charged in fatal Benton County crash

Mark Himmelsbach, 23, of Norway, is charged with Homicide by Vehicle and Operating Under the Influence.
Mark Himmelsbach and Christine Ballard were riding in a pickup when the driver lost control and the vehicle traveled into a ditch and rolled over. Ballard was ejected from the vehicle in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. Himmelsbach was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of his injuries. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
