Davenport teen killed in Eldridge crash

An 18-year-old died, and two other teens were hurt, when the vehicle they were in crashed in Eldridge, Iowa. The report said both of them were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Mitchell Hayes, 18, of Davenport, died as a result of his injuries from the crash. The report said Hayes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The car went into the ditch on the east side of the road and struck a culvert, which caused “significant front end damage,” the report said.

Driver charged in fatal Scott Co. crash

Bret Schaefbauer, 19, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the February 7th incident.  Police say he was under the influence of a controlled substance when he crashed his car in rural Scott County.
