Police say a motorcyclist who lost control of his bike and slid into oncoming traffic has died.

The fatal motorcycle crash occurred just before 9 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of East 27th Street and Hubbell Avenue in Des Moines. The deceased man was identified Wednesday as Rodney Wayne McCloney, 46, of Des Moines. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he later died. Evidence from the crash site suggests that McCloney was heading eastbound when he lost control of his motorcycle, slid across the centerline into westbound traffic, and crashed into a minivan.
