Sheriff Deputies from Miami County have arrested a man they believe is responsible for stealing two vehicles then crashing one in a rural area.
Sheriff Deputies from Miami County have arrested a man they believe is responsible for stealing two vehicles then crashing one in a rural area. Undersheriff Wayne Minckley said the suspect stole a car from a home in Johnson County, Kan. The suspect then ditched that car in Miami County and stole a second car near 255th Street and Metcalf. The residents heard the commotion of a thief stealing their car and called authorities. While running away from deputies, the suspect crashed near 223rd and Metcalf. After an extensive search with K-9 units, Johnson County Sheriff Deputies, Overland Park Police, Olathe Police and Miami County Deputies, the suspect was found around 3:30 a.m. Initial reports indicated that two people may be involved in the thefts. However, authorities later confirmed that only one person was arrested. A large portion of Miami County, between 223rd and 275th streets, was closed to traffic as officers searched the perimeter for the suspect.
