Driver killed in crash at Kansas speedway

A post on the dragway’s Facebook page Sunday night identified the man as Jason Lumpkin, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas.

Witness Logan Majors of Wichita said the crash happened when a car went out of control and hit a wall after crossing the finish line.

Prayers and condolences were pouring in Monday for the family of well-known drag racer Jason Lumpkin of Fort Worth who was killed Sunday when his CRX Honda crashed at Kansas International Dragway in Maize, Kan.

Novacek says the crash has been a wake-up call for many racers. He says you can buy the proper roll bars for under $1,000. Some people asked us if the temperature was an issue. Novacek says he does not believe it was cold enough Sunday to be a factor.
