Child killed, woman and child critical after stabbing by alleged suspect Hassan Wright, 49, following 2-vehicle crash near Lincoln and Oliver in southeast Wichita, Kansas
Wichita Police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said a woman in her 20s is in surgery, and a child between the ages of 5 and 7 has died from her injuries.
The two were stabbed multiple times and found in a crashed vehicle near Lincoln and Oliver Friday morning.
Police say they were quickly able to release the picture of the suspect and thanked the media for the assistance in getting the picture out. An alert citizen saw it and called 911, telling investigators that Wright would possibly be at the location where police arrested him without incident.
At about 9:22 a.m., 911 dispatch received an anonymous phone call saying that Wright was at a Haysville residence. The Kansas offender registry says that Wright, who is on parole, is a sex offender with a Haysville address.

She was able to identify the suspect as Hassan Wright once police arrived. They believe he is her uncle.
This brutal stabbing is not Wright’s first time being in trouble or committing murder. In 1988, Wright was involved in a shooting in Wyandotte County, Kansas, in which he was convicted of 2nd-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery.
District Attorney Marc Bennett gives a brief statement after Hassan Lamont Wright's plea Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2016.
