One person dies in crash in Ascension Parish.
A Napoleonville man was killed Tuesday morning in Ascension Parish when his car crashed head-on with a dump truck on La. 70, State Police said.
Shelby G. Johnson, 36, of Napoleonville, drove his northbound 2006 Ford Mustang into the southbound lane of La. 70 for unknown reasons shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sorrento, said Trooper Jared Sandifer, spokesman for Troop A, in a news release.
The Mustang and the southbound 2006 Mack truck collided south of La. 22, the trooper said.
Johnson had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office, he said.
Donna Dunaway, 40, of Gonzales, the driver of the dump truck, was wearing her seat belt and was not injured, he said.
Neither Dunaway nor Johnson, who also was wearing his seat belt, is suspected of being intoxicated but blood samples were taken for analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, the trooper said.
