Drunken driver kills LaPlace bicyclist in hit-run wreck, police say

State Police said they found Gauthreaux after relative at her house called the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office and reported the crash.
According to Louisiana State Police, 55-year-old Wellman Joseph was riding in the westbound lane of River Road when a vehicle struck him Thursday just before 11 p.m. near Water Plant Road. The driver of that vehicle fled, while Joseph died at the scene. Darla Gauthreaux, 29, of St. Rose was later arrested and booked with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and felony hit-and-run driving.
