County man dies in motorcycle collision

A local 19-year-old man died early Saturday when his motorcycle crashed on Route 161, according to police. According to Pelletier, Martin was operating a 2009 Harley-Davidson when he attempted to pass Donny McBreairty, 22. Neither operator was wearing a helmet, Pelletier indicated. Colby Martin died when his motorcycle collided with another as both vehicles were headed east on the highway shortly after 1:30 a.m., police Chief Tom Pelletier indicated in a prepared statement.

Police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors. A man was killed in a motorcycle accident early Saturday morning in Fort Kent. Martin was pronounce dead at the scene. Police say 19-year-old Colby Martin of Fort Kent and 22-year-old Donny McBreairty of St John were both riding motorcycles on Route 161 around 1:30 this morning. They tell us Martin attempted to pass McBreairty at a high rate of speed, hitting McBreairty and causing both riders to be ejected from their bikes.
