State Police confirm the wreckage of a small plane missing enroute to Houlton International Airport, has been found. It was due to arrive at the Houlton International Airport 1 a.m. About an hour later, customs heard a plane approaching and then what they described sounded like engines failing and a loud bang or crashing noise. Houlton Police Department, Aroostook County Sheriffs, Maine Warden Service, Border Patrol and Customs are currently conducting ground and air searches. According to Houlton Police Chief Joe McKenna, the twin-engine aircraft was flying from Canada.

The pond is located just a couple miles away from the Houlton Airport.

Pilot found dead in Houlton plane crash identified

HOULTON, Maine '€” The pilot found dead after his twin-engine plane crashed early Thursday morning in Houlton under foggy conditions has been identified as 30-year-old Bakary Doucoure of Le Blanc, France. Information on flightware.com indicates the distance between Goose Bay and Houlton is 597 miles. The plane crashed about a mile south of the airport after clipping some trees, ending up in a man-made pond. According to the website flightaware.com, the pilot'€™s logged flight plan from Goose Bay to Houlton was 625 miles and he actually flew 640 miles before crashing. Thursday after leaving the airport in Goose Bay, Labrador, at about 9:15 p.m.
