Worcester police: Boy, 5, let off school bus alone, struck by car

A 5-year-old pupil at Abby Kelley Foster Charter School was hit by a car Monday after he was let off a school bus without a parent to meet him and tried to cross the street by himself, police said. The child, whose name was not released, suffered a broken leg and minor head trauma, and was reported in stable condition Tuesday at a nearby hospital, police said. Police were called to the accident near 98 Hamilton St. at 3:41 p.m. Monday. The 35-year-old driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala told police he was driving east on Hamilton Street when the boy ran into the street from between two parked vehicles. The boy was struck by the front bumper of the oncoming car and was propelled 24 feet by the impact, police said.
