Drivers killed in Route 20 accident indentified

The accident occurred around 5 P.M. on Friday. 24-year-old Benjamin Stulpin of Springfield was traveling east on Route 20, according to West Springfield’s Accident Reconstruction Unit, when he crossed the over the yellow line and hit 50-year-old Jeffrey Martell of Northampton, who was driving in the opposite direction.

2 die in western Massachusetts car crash

Police said Sunday that 50-year-old Jeff Martell, of Northampton, and 24-year-old Benjamin Stulpin, of Springfield, died in the crash Friday afternoon on Route 20. Family and friends tell The Daily Hampshire Gazette that Martell was a folk singer and songwriter who was on his way to New York for a gig at the time of the crash. Martell was well known in the local music scene and a key organizer of the Green River Festival in Greenfield. Police say one of the cars crossed the center line, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
