Woman, 80, dies after crash near Wayland
Authorities say a 28-year-old Allegan man driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck admitted to missing a stop sign and hitting the a 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight.
An 80-year-old Otsego woman was killed Sunday when a pickup truck ran a stop sign around 10:45 a.m. on Patterson Road in Wayland Township. Judith Ann Shumaker, a passenger in the car struck by the at-fault truck, was critically injured and was airlifted to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital where she died. The driver of Shumaker's car was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck told police that he missed the stop sign and was unable to stop before colliding with Shumaker's vehicle. Both the at-fault driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries. Police are evaluating whether to bring charges.
