Itasca County Crash Kills 2

The Minnesota State Patrol says two people are dead after a broadside crash in Itasca County on Tuesday morning. The crash happened at 6:41 a.m. on Highway 46 at County Road 143, which is about 7 miles northwest of Deer River. The patrol says a car was southbound on the highway when it pulled onto the shoulder and began a U-turn, colliding with a southbound SUV.

(AP) - A 29-year-old man is accused of driving drunk in a crash that killed two people in northern Minnesota. Itasca County Attorney John Muhar says Derrick Lee Cloud of Deer River was charged this week with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. A criminal complaint says Cloud told authorities that the three had been drinking at his house and a casino before the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol says Cloud was driving an SUV Tuesday morning in Itasca County and struck the driver's side of a car making a U-turn. A judge set his bail at $200,000 without conditions, or $100,000 with conditions including electronic home monitoring.

Itasca County man sentenced to more than four years in prison for fatal crash

Cloud initially faced six charges in connection with the crash that killed 27-year-old Cory Jones and 21-year-old Jaclyn Howard. Under a plea agreement with Itasca County prosecutors, the remaining charges were dismissed.
