D'Iberville woman identified as victim of fatal crash

The woman who died in a car chase with police Thursday night has been identified as Millicent Sue Smith, 48, of D'Iberville. Authorities say she was killed when her son, Marshall Smith, 24, lost control of his vehicle and slammed it into a tree while being chased by police. Investigators say it all started when Marshall and several other people got into a fight at a restaurant on Central Avenue in D'Iberville and Marshall took off in his vehicle, slamming into a car in the parking lot. The police chase that ensued ended less than a mile away on Quave Road in St. Martin. Millicent Smith died at the scene.

D'Iberville man facing murder charges following fatal wreck

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Marshall Smith, 24, was charged with murder in a Jackson County court Wednesday morning. A D'Iberville man will face murder charges in the death of his mother. Smith's mother, Millicent Smith, also of D'Iberville, was killed as a result of that crash. The charge stems from a police pursuit that ended with Smith crashing into a tree on July 31. The pursuit began following a reported fight in D'Iberville.
