Janice Bennett, 53, killed when a falling tree in Hattiesburg crashes on her car and downs power lines, starting a fire and trapping the victim in Hattiesburg, Mississippi

According to officials with the Hattiesburg Police Department, a downed tree and power line has claimed one life. A HPD Lieutenant stated that a tree fell on top of a car, causing some power lines to break. The incident one person is dead. The accident happened somewhere on Richburg Road, near Nellwood Drive, in the Hattiesburg city limits. The accident happened around 1:15pm. Police believe the car was in motion when a tree on the right side of the road fell on top of the car. The tree took down power lines and fire was started. Detectives say that they are unsure of what exactly sparked the fire, but say that one person was inside the car and was burned to death. Coroner Butch Benedict has confirmed that the identity of the victim is Janice Bennett, age 53, of Purvis, Mississippi.
