The women said Bushnell was not pushing his bike along the curb, but was instead “directly in the middle of the road,” and said she did not see him until impact. “It was just not enough time,” she said, “not enough time for me to stop.” 
The collision happened when Matthew Bushnell, 34, was walking on Emmanuel Cleaver II Boulevard early Wednesday morning. After the collision the teen driver left the site, went home to tell her mother what happened. They called police and the driver turned herself in at a nearby police station. Bushnell is still in intensive care, with head injuries and broken bones.
