Officer fires weapon after crash, shoots baby in toe

A police officer fired shots after his motorcycle was rammed Friday, and a baby was struck in the toe by a bullet from the officer's service weapon. Two men are in custody and two infants were involved in the incident. Police say one of the men is the father of the two infants and the vehicle belongs to the infants’ mother. No one in the suspect vehicle fired at the officer. "It is horrible that an infant was involved and injured in this incident," Capt. Tye Grant of the Kansas City Police Department said. "No child ever should be placed in such a dangerous situation." Grant confirmed that the male officer apparently shot the baby inadvertently. He said he doesn't know how long the officer, who has been placed on administrative leave, has been with the department.
