Motorcyclist dies in early Saturday morning crash

Eastbound lanes of the 215 Beltway are closed between Aliante Parkway and North 5th Street early Saturday morning after a fatal motorcycle crash, according to Nevada Highway Patrol. One motorcyclist was able to avoid a crash, but the other motorcyclist collided with the pickup. The motorcyclist, who NHP said was a man, was thrown off the bike. The occupants of the pickup, a man and woman, were taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. About 4:10 a.m., a pickup truck westbound on the Beltway crossed the median into the path of two motorcyclists, who were traveling eastbound.

Sonerholm was thrown off the bike and both the motorcycle and the pickup caught fire, NHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision.
