Portions of the right wing separated from the Backovich GP-5 dubbed "Sweet Dreams" before the aircraft rolled to the right and crashed Sept. 8 in a more than half-mile-long debris path, according to a National Transportation Safety Board summary released Saturday.
Sport Class pilot Lee Behel, 64, from San Jose was involved in a fatal single-plane accident during a qualifying heat of the National Championship Air Races at the Reno-Stead Airport Monday. Behel was a retired Air Force fighter pilot and a loving father. Behel was a former Sport Class champion and longtime Air Race pilot.
