1 dead after multi-vehicle accident on Turnpike in Elizabeth, police say

A Philadelphia man died today following an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth, police said.

The accident occurred around 7:19 a.m. this morning on the New Jersey Turnpike near mile marker 102.6 in Elizabeth. A Toyota RAV4 driven by Jinkui He, 48 of Philadelphia, crossed into the outer roadway into the path of a Ford van driving north. The driver of the van was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the rear of Mr. He’s vehicle, which then struck a guardrail. The van was also hit by a car from behind. No physical injuries were observed on He but the man was unconscious and not breathing when police arrived. CPR was administered and He was taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth where he was pronounced dead soon after. A female passenger traveling with He, as well as a passenger in the car that struck the van, had injuries treated at the hospital.
