Hit-and-run driver kills man after New Jersey Turnpike crash

Officials say the man got out of one of the cars and was on the side of the highway when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The man's name has not been released. It wasn't immediately clear if he was driving one the vehicles involved in the crash.

William Espinal-Mejia, 35, is charged with one count of second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park and New Jersey State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes announced.
