Bus driver gets 364 days in jail for leaving scene of fatal crash at Newark airport

Zeisler, 61, of Howell, was scheduled to take an early morning flight to Chicago for his first day at a new job. Ortez, a driver for Academy Bus lines, was at work, getting ready to transport people from the airport parking lots to the terminals.

Bus driver Fidel Ortez checked Zeisler for a pulse after he hit him and then drove away. About two minutes later, Ortez called an Academy dispatcher and said there was an apparently impaired man lying in the parking lot. He did not report that he drove over him.

To Carol Zeisler, her husband was “one in a million, truly irreplaceable,” her attorney read from her statement.
