Carl Apodaca, 67, was piloting a paraglider when he crashed for unknown reasons in an open field north of Route 66 Casino, a New Mexico State Police news release states.

According to state police, they responded to a downed aircraft in a field near Route 66 Casino on Saturday morning. During the investigation, state police say Carl Apodaca was piloting a glider that crashed for unknown reasons.

Apodaca suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this crash.
