Pedestrian Severely Injured by Hit/Run Driver in Queens: Police

A pedestrian in Queens was grievously injured when he was hit by a motorist who fled the scene, police said Saturday. The driver sped away, but investigators said they have surveillance video of the SUV. The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital with injuries that police said appeared to be life-threatening. The victim, a man in his 40s whose identity wasn't disclosed by police, was apparently crossing 93rd Avenue in the Jamaica neighborhood at about 9:20 p.m. Residents of the neighborhood told NBC 4 New York that they've witnessed speeders and reckless drivers on their streets. "They speed down this block," said Anakei Thompkins.
