Raymond Mong, 49, Henry Wdowiak, 68, and Gregory Liljefors, 55, killed and 16 injured in crash between tour bus and city bus at Northern Boulevard and Main Street in Flushing, Queens, New York

Police say the crash in Flushing, Queens, killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk, the tour bus driver and a passenger on the city bus.

The wreck also reportedly caused damage to a nearby building, where a small fire had to be extinguished and leaking gas had to be shut off.   

An MTA spokesman said the Q20 bus was making a right turn on Northern Boulevard shortly before 6:30 a.m. when the private bus, which read Dahlia on the back, struck it.

The tour bus driver who plowed into an MTA bus on Monday morning in Queens, killing himself and two others, was previously employed as an MTA bus driver—until he was fired for a DUI in Connecticut.   

"It makes me so angry the company hired a driver with a bad history - a DUI. This guy shouldn't have been a driving a bicycle, much less a bus," Kurpiewski told The News.   

It's possible his out-of-state conviction slipped through the cracks. Private motorcoach operators aren't required by federal law to do a criminal background check on employees, though the rules differ for school bus drivers or anyone carrying hazardous materials.
