The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident told police that he swerved to avoid a pedestrian, then lost control and hit Ryan.
Tom Ryan, a 40-year-old driver for United Parcel Service from Bayonne lost his leg in an accident in Staten Island when he was pinned against his truck by another vehicle Monday morning. Witnesses said Ryan's one leg was severed and his other leg was also injured in the accident. The victim was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital and then he was transferred to Bellevue Hospital, "He's going to live, but that's all I know at this point," said a UPS representative. The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident told police that he swerved to avoid a pedestrian, then lost control and hit Ryan.
