New Hartford man critically injured in crash after car catches fire

At 4:36 a.m. Friday, officers returning to the patrol facility on Erie Boulevard noticed fire and smoke in the parking lot at 2211 Erie Blvd E. A 911 call was placed, and the officers discovered it was a vehicle on fire.

Sergeants tried to get the driver’s door open several times before they were successful. The driver, Vinny Maugeri, a 2013 New Hartford graduate, was able to get out of the vehicle and get medical attention.

He was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition

A Syracuse University student seriously injured last week in a fiery crash on Erie Boulevard East has died, according to SU officials.

Funeral arrangements set for New Hartford graduate killed in Syracuse crash

Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-8:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, 2222 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13502; According to his obituary, the family will remain until all visitors have been seen.
