Victim in Canton fatal car-pedestrian crash identified

Canton firefighters directed traffic for most of the afternoon while state police reconstructed the scene.

Troopers identify pedestrian and driver in Sunday Canton fatality; investigation continues

An autopsy conducted Sunday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, by Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone determined Mr. Mackin’s cause of death to be cerebral avulsion resulting from the collision.
Richard “Rick” Mackin of Russell was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along the shoulder near 6085 Route 11. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
