“It appears the vehicle sideswiped the tractor-trailer, but that’s what we’re going to investigate,” Sgt. Simpson said, adding that several witnesses were interviewed at the scene.

State police said Douglas A. Medley, 50, of Watertown, was southbound on Route 11 when he crossed over the center line and into the northbound lane of a tractor-trailer driven by Chris A. Anderson, 50, of Philadelphia. 

Crash victim was former Watertown High School science teacher

He had been employed as a substitute teacher at General Brown Central School District since the fall, according to the district.

Former students fondly remember accident victim Douglas Medley

The man who was killed in a vehicle crash Wednesday on Route 11 was a Watertown High School science teacher for many years, and several of his former students praised his passion for the profession on Thursday.
An SUV was southbound on Route 11 near the Evan Mills Speedway Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle apparently sideswiped a northbound tractor trailer hauling an oversized load of gazebos. The 3 p.m. accident left the driver of the SUV dead, but the truck driver was uninjured. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
